Firewood Calculator

Convert a wood stack into full cords and face cords.

Firewood Calculator 3D illustration

A full cord is a stacked pile 4 ft high, 4 ft deep, and 8 ft long—128 cubic feet of stacked wood including air gaps. Cords = length × depth × height ÷ 128.

A face cord (rick) is typically 8 ft long and 4 ft high but only as deep as the stick length, often 16 inches. That face cord is 8 × 4 × 1.333 ≈ 42.7 cu ft, about one-third of a full cord.

Measure the stack as it sits, not the truck bed, and keep the same tightness of stacking the seller used.

Cords are stacked volume, the same length × width × depth idea as the soil calculator. Winter electric backup is the solar battery calculator.

How this calculation works

cu ft = L × W × H. cords = cu ft / 128. Face cords of 16 in wood = cu ft / 42.67.
